Take your website with you
A website you made should not depend on us. That is why every Mapnil site, on every plan, can be exported as a static website: a zip of plain HTML, CSS, JavaScript and your media. No database, no server code, no account.
Easy to archive
A static site is just a folder of files. Put it next to your photos, on a USB stick or in your backups, and it will still open in ten years. No software to update, no login to remember, nothing that stops working when a service shuts down.
Lighter
There is nothing to compute when a visitor arrives: the server hands over files, and that is all. Pages load fast, use little energy, and a small host can serve many visitors.
Hosted anywhere
Any web host that serves files can serve your site:
- GitHub Pages, Codeberg Pages or any classic web host: upload the folder and you are online.
- Your laptop: any small web server will do, to show your site to someone or to work on it offline.
- A Raspberry Pi on your shelf: a tiny computer is plenty for a static site, so you can host it at home.
How to export
Open your site in the editor, export it, and you get the zip. Unpack it
wherever you want the site to live. You can also publish it in one click
at yourname.mapnil.page and keep the export as your copy: both are the
same site.
